A 71 year old Winchester woman undertook a course of acupuncture treatments and found her asthma greatly improved and reduced her need for medication significantly. Initially she had acupuncture once a week and now just has monthly maintenance visits. Acupuncture involves inserting fine needles into the skin in certain points in order to remove blockages, balance energy and promote the body's ability to heal itself. Each needle is sterilized and used only once and they generally cause very little pain when inserted into the skin. Journals from MEDLINE claim that acupuncture is ineffective in bronchial, mild or persistent asthma but can improve allergic asthma.
