Anti-viral drugs during pregnancy can prevent spread of HIV/AIDS

China is hoping to stem the HIV/AIDS tide by implementing free screening for pregnant women. Anti-viral therapies during pregnancy can prevent infected women from passing the disease on to their baby. An estimated 1-11/2 million Chinese have HIV/AIDS and there are about 40,000 to 50,000 orphans existing because of the infection.
