Blueberries found to be effective in reducing cholesterol

Researchers in the US have found that the antioxidant pterostilbene found in blueberries is capable of stimulating receptor proteins in the liver cells in rats which in turn lowers cholesterol. This effect is almost identical to a drug called ciprofibrate but side effects such as muscle pain and nausea did not occur. Thus, it may be possible to use blueberries to control cholesterol.
