Doctors to be trained on the dangers of the Atkins Diet

St Andrews University in Britain is set to begin training doctors on warning patients about the health risk of the currently popular Atkins diet. The diet is especially not advisable for people with diabetes or kidney problems. Research indicates that the Atkins diet may cause problems over the long term such as high blood pressure, fertility problems and kidney damage. A medical advisor for Atkins UK has retaliated by saying that about 50 million people worldwide follow the diet which has been around for over 30 years. She claims that the diet is nutritionally sound and there is no proven evidence to the contrary. A man in America recently sued the Atkins group for $28,000 after claiming that the diet caused his cholesterol to rise to a dangerous level.
