40% of Americans take at least on prescription drug on a regular basis with 16% taking three or more. Usage of depression drugs has shown the greatest increase with 10% of women over 18 and 4% of men over 18 using antidepressants. Cholesterol-lowering and anti-inflammatory drugs have the next highest usage. Lifestyle and vanity drugs such as Viagra and Propecia (baldness treatment) are also becoming increasingly popular. Viagra has been known to cause side effects such as cardiac disorders and even death. Propecia has side effects such as loss of libido and impotence. The FDA has recently banned a lifestyle drug for women. Intrinsa patch was made to treat female sexual dysfunction but was discovered to cause major cardiovascular damage. .
