Exercise is the key to bone health in the elderly

Elderly women should exercise for up to 45 minutes at least 3 times a week to maintain healthy bones. HRT has been used to maintain bone density but its association with increase in breast cancer and heart disease means it is no longer recommended. Melbourne University is to conduct a trial where elderly women commence exercising while having their bone density measured over 12 months.
