Obstetricians are the most frequently sued medicine specialists. A woman died a day after her baby's birth from disseminated intravascular coagulopathy. This condition is results when an internal imbalance causes a lack of blood clotting ability. The cause of the condition could have been a sudden birth, failure of uterus to constrict or an infection. The doctor allegedly failed to monitor the woman's reduce urine output following the birth. She was also bleeding heavily and had poor vital signs. She had a hysterectomy to try to stop the bleeding. It was argued that the woman would most likely have survived if she had been given blood clotting agents soon enough. However, the jury eventually delivered a verdict in favor of the obstetrician.
