Increasing incidence of chronic disease, not just for the elderly

The emergence of chronic illness in younger age groups and their multiplication in one patient now constitutes a high percentage of medical practice. Chronic illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, asthma, chronic obstructive airway disease (emphysema and bronchitis), arthritis, osteoporosis, hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), anxiety, and depression are increasing in our self gratifying society. Diet, smoking and sedentary lifestyles are driving the incidence up with heavy demand for treatment. Prevention is the best cure with good nutrition and exercise with healthy lifestyle choices under the responsibility of the patient.
