Maternity mistake causes new parents grief

A new mother was accidentally given another baby to breastfeed shortly following her child's delivery. The wrong baby had a nasogastric tube inserted at the time and was resisting feeding until a nurse intervened informing the mother of the mistake. The couple were distraught with the discovery that a baby the woman was given by a midwife to breastfeed was not theirs and are now frustrated that the hospital has not offered counselling or genetic testing to confirm that the baby they have brought home is truly theirs. Both families had verbal apologies from the hospital, but the father is finding difficulty bonding with his child.
