Packaging of iron supplements reduces poisonings

The move in 1997 by the FDA to make unit-dose packaging for iron supplements regulation has resulted in calls to poison control centers going from 2.99 per 1,000 calls to 1.91 per 1,000 calls. The deaths caused by accidental ingestion of iron by children under 6 also decreased from 29 to 1 during the same five year period.
