Pregnancy complications higher for rheumatoid arthritic mothers

Greater risk with pregnancy and prolonged hospital admission has been found to be associated with maternal rheumatic disease, prompting advice for mothers to seek close monitoring of their progression with their obstetrician. Autoimmune conditions are known to result in difficult pregnancies with maternal hypertension and premature deliveries, however, literature on the topic particularly involving rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, has been scarce. Rheumatic disease is an inflammatory condition of the joints of the body and is more common in women.
