Protein responsible for longevity has been discovered

Researchers have been aware for a long time that a low calorie diet may be linked to a longer life. They have now found that a protein Sir2 is responsible for this effect. A restricted diet in flies caused an excess production of Sir2 which in turn increased the life span.
