Researchers to test Viagra's effectiveness in treating enlarged hearts

Hypertrophy or enlarged heart is commonly associated with heart failure and can result in death. Researchers have found that Viagra can help alleviate the condition in animals and now plan on seeing if the same it has the same effect on humans. The active ingredient in Viagra is sildenafil and it has already proved its safety through its use as an erectile dysfunction treatment. However, sildenafil is only effective for a short time and this would need to be improved in order for it to be a viable treatment for hypertrophy.
