What is Osteochondroma?

What is Osteochondroma?

  • Osteochondroma: A bone development abnormality characterized by the development of a benign bone tumor that occurs on the ends of long bones. Symptoms, if any, are determined by the location and size of the tumor. The tumor can occur singly or in multiples and in rare instances the tumors may become malignant.
  • Osteochondroma: A cartilage-capped benign tumor that often appears as a stalk on the surface of bone. It is probably a developmental malformation rather than a true neoplasm and is usually found in the metaphysis of the distal femur, proximal tibia, or proximal humerus. Osteochondroma is the most common of benign bone tumors.
