Adrenal Steroid Hormones: The adrenal steroid hormones are hormones produced and secreted by the adrenal cortex, the outer layer of the paired adrenal glands. The adrenal steroid hormones are chemical substances that help to regulate a wide variety of the body's processes, including metabolism, water and electrolyte balance, sexual development and function, and also have anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory effects.

The adrenal steroid hormones include the androgen hormones, mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids. Conditions that can afflict the adrenal steroid hormones include Addison's disease, Cushing's syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome, excessive production of adrenal androgen hormones, hyperaldosteronism, adrenal tumors, adrenal cancer, and trauma.
