Summary Information: Ingestion

Ingestion: Ingestion is the process by which the body takes food into the body through the mouth. Ingestion is another term for eating and drinking and is the first step of digestion. Harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites can also be introduced into the body through ingestion.

Conditions that afflict ingestion include anorexia, fractured jaw, dysphagia, periodontal disease, and missing teeth.
