Intermediate Lobe of the Pituitary Gland: The intermediate lobe of the pituitary gland is one of three lobes that make up the pituitary gland. It is the smallest lobe and its function is to produce and secrete melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Conditions that can afflict the intermediate lobe of the pituitary gland include brain surgery, meningitis, pituitary apoplexy, adenoma, empty sella syndrome, hypopituitarism, and head trauma.
