Summary Information: Platelet Plug

Platelet Plug: A platelet plug is the way the body stops the bleeding from cut or ruptured capillaries. When these tiny vessels are traumatized, platelets in the nearby circulation become sticky and adhere to the breaks in the capillaries and to each other, creating a plug to stop the bleeding.

Conditions that can afflict a platelet plug include thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis, and chemotherapy.
