Glossary for Pain Disorder

  • Anxiety disorders: Anxiety disorders are persistent and excessive feelings of fear, worry or uneasiness that are significant enough to have an impact on day-to-day life. Excessive anxiety can have repercussions on physical and mental health. There are a number of different subtypes of anxiety disorders such as General anxiety, Social anxiety, Phobias, Hypochondria and Obsessive compulsive disorder.
  • Body Dysmorphic Disorder: Delusional belief about body shape or appearance
  • Conversion Disorder: A psychological condition where physical symptoms arise due to emotional dilemmas.
  • Dyspareunia: Vaginal pain after sexual intercourse
  • Factitious syndromes: A disorder that a person believes they have that however does not exist
  • Hypochondriasis: A disorder characterised by a preoccupation with normal bodily functions as abnormalities
  • Major depressive disorder: A condition which is characterized by the occurrence of a major episode of depression
  • Malingering: The faking or exaggeration of symptoms of a particular condition
  • Mental illness: Any psychological syndrome
  • Mood disorders: Disorders that affect a persons mood
  • Pain: A feeling of suffering, agony, distress caused by the stimulation of pain fibres in the nervous system
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Physical conditions: Any condition that physically affects an individual
  • Psychiatric disorders: Any condition that affects ones mind
  • Psychological disorders: Any condition that affects ones mind
  • Psychotic disorders: Psychiatric disorders with mental detachment from reality
  • Somatization Disorder: A disorder that is characterised by multiple somatic complaints
  • Somatoform Disorders: A disorder that is characterised by multiple somatic complaints
  • Undifferentiated Somatoform disorder: A disorder which is characterised by one or more physical complaints that are not intentionally produced or feigned
