Polyploidy

Polyploidy: Introduction

A disorder where the cells of the body have more than two copies of each chromosome. Terms such as triploid and tetraploid refer directly to how many chromosome sets are present in the cells. Polyploidy can cause birth defects and conditions such as Down's syndrome where each cell has 3 copies of a particular chromosome instead of one.
