Symptoms of Postnasal drip

Symptoms of Postnasal drip: Introduction

Symptoms of postnasal drip can vary in intensity, frequency, and duration among individuals. Symptoms can be minimal and include mild congestion of the nose or sinuses, a feeling of mucus or tickling in the back of the throat, clearing the throat, and a frequent need to spit.

Symptoms can also be more severe and include sore throat, coughing or snorting to clear the throat, difficulty breathing and nausea and vomiting due to accumulation of mucus in the stomach.

Complications of postnasal drip include the development of bad breath (halitosis), chronic sore throat, chronic cough, and the development of masses on the tonsils.

Symptoms that can accompany postnasal drip due to allergic rhinitis include itching, sneezing, impaired smell and taste, headache, a plugged feeling in ears, under-eye puffiness, fatigue, and a spacey "head-in-the-clouds" feeling.

Symptoms that can accompany postnasal drip due to sinusitis include fever, headache, stuffy nose, and difficulty breathing. Pain or pressure in the face or area in and around the eyes is common. There also can be fatigue and swelling around the nose and eyes and eyelids. Pain and headache may be worse when bending over or lying down.
