Spondylarthropathy: Introduction

A group of related inflammatory conditions that affect the sacroiliac joints and spine and sometimes other joints. The condition also involves the presence of either a family history of the disease, psoriasis, inflammation of the urethra, acute diarrhea, alternating buttock pain, sacroiliitis or inflammatory bowel disease. The progression of the disease can vary greatly between individuals and can be quite painful. Some examples include ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and reactive arthritis.
