Glossary for Tolosa-Hunt Syndrome

  • Arthralgia: Pain in the joints, often a symptom of arthritis.
  • Blindness: The inability to see out of the eyes
  • Blurred vision: Blurriness of vision or images.
  • Cornea/lens symptoms: Symptoms affecting the cornea or lens of the eye
  • Exophthalmos: Protrusion of one or both eyes
  • Eye and vision conditions: Medical conditions affecting the eyes or the vision systems.
  • Eye pain: Pain in the eye.
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Head Conditions: Conditions that affect the head
  • Headache and migraine conditions: Medical conditions related to headaches including migraine.
  • Multifocal fibrosclerosis: A rare disorder characterized by the development of fibrous tissue that can occur in various parts of the body such as the retroperitoneum, mediastinum, eye area, bile ducts and thyroid gland. The severity and range of involvement is variable. There is no obvious cause for the condition.
  • Muscle conditions: Any condition that affects the muscles of the body
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Ophthalmoplegia: A disorder that is characterised by the paralysis of the eye muscles
  • Pain conditions: Diseases characterized by pain and pain-like symptoms.
  • Superior orbital fissure syndrome: A neurological condition that can result from a fracture of the orbital fissure which is a cleft that lies behind the nose. The disorder that can also result from facial fractures, cavernous sinus infections or retrobulbar tumors or infections. Damage to the nerves that pass through the orbital fissure causes the symptoms.
  • Unilateral headache: Unilateral headache is pain on one side of the head.
  • Vertigo: The odd balance sensation of inappropriate spinning or movement of the environment
