What is True Thymus Hyperplasia?

  • True Thymus Hyperplasia: Enlargement of the thymus gland in response to such things as cancer treatment, severe burns and other major stresses on the body. The thymus gland is located beneath the breastbone and above the windpipe and heart. It is made up of lymphatic tissue and is believed to be responsible for supporting the development of the immune system from the fetal stage through to puberty. After puberty, the thymus gland tends to shrink.
