Listeria test: The listeria test is a laboratory method used to identify Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) in a blood sample. L. monocytogenes is a food-borne bacterial pathogen. Listeria can cause mild gastrointestinal symptoms but can also spread to the nervous system. However, an unborn or newborn child of a mother with listeria may experience a life-threatening infection.
