Octreotide scan: An octreotide scan is used to visualize changes in neuroendocrine tumors; radiolabeled somatostatin analog, octreotide, is administered intravenously and attaches to neuroendocrine tumor cells expressing the cell surface receptor for somatostatin; a specialized camera, called a scintillation camera, is used to localize the radioactivity.
