Parathyroid scan

Parathyroid scan: A parathyroid scan is a method to locate and size the parathyroid glands following injection of a radioactive tracer substance (Sestamibi) and documentation with a scintillation camera. An enlargement of only one of the four glands is indicative of an adenoma or cancer rather than hyperplasia, which would most likely enlarge all four glands.
