Renal scan

Renal scan: A renal scan is used to evaluate kidney structure and function with a nuclear imaging procedure. The urinary tract and associated blood vessels are visualized with a scintillation camera following intravenous injection of a radioactive tracer. Distinct radioisotopes are used for different types of renal scanning: blood flow, structure, function, obstruction, and hypertension.
