Glossary for Varicella virus antenatal infection

  • Chorioretinitis: Inflammation of the choroids and retina of the eye. It can be caused by various pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, fungus or protozoa. Other noninfectious diseases such as sarcoidosis can cause abnormal deposits in the eye which can also result in inflammation.
  • Conditions involving a pathogen: Medical conditions involving some type of pathogen, such as a virus or bacteria.
  • Fetal development toxicity: Diseases where exposures to toxins or substances cause fetal developmental problems.
  • Fetal health conditions: Medical conditions affecting the health of a fetus while inside the pregnant mother.
  • Mental problems: Symptoms affecting judgement, thought or intelligence.
  • Microcephaly: Small head circumference
  • Microphthalmia: Abnormally small eyes.
  • Pregnancy-related conditions: Any condition that is related to or caused by pregnancy
  • Seizures: A rare syndrome characterized by mental retardation, seizures and high levels of hydroxylysine in the urine.
  • Small head: The occurrence of a head which is smaller than normal
  • Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
