Glossary for Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis -- Teratogenic Agent

  • Brain conditions: Medical conditions that affect the brain

  • Leukeran -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Leukeran (a chemotherapy drug) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Nervous system conditions: Diseases affecting the nerves and the nervous system.
  • Pregnancy-related conditions: Any condition that is related to or caused by pregnancy
  • Primary Herpes Infection -- Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that the use of primary Herpes Infection during pregnancy may cause a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Teratogen-related conditions: Medical conditions related to "teratogens", i.e. substances that can cause birth defects by fetal exposure.
  • Venezuelan equine encephalitis: A mosquito-borne virus that usually affects horses and related animals but may also infect humans. Young, weak and old people may become very sick and in some cases death can occur. It occurs in Central and South America. The incubation period is 2-5 days. The period of illness is usually 3-8 days but relapses are possible.
  • Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
