Glossary for Waardenburg syndrome, type 3

  • Anophthalmos: A rare defect where one or both eyes are absent. The amount of eye socket tissue affected is variable.
  • Ear and Hearing conditions: Medical conditions affecting the ears or the hearing systems.
  • Eye and vision conditions: Medical conditions affecting the eyes or the vision systems.
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Hair conditions: Any disorder the affects the hair
  • Head Conditions: Conditions that affect the head
  • Heterochromia iridis: Different colored irises of the eye in one person.
  • Microcephaly: Small head circumference
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Syndactyly: Fusion of one or more fingers or toes. The digits may be joined simply by skin or the actual bones may be fused. The fusion may involve the whole digit or only a portion of it.
  • Upper limb conditions: Any medical condition affecting the upper limbs, i.e. the arms, elbows, hands, etc.
